In the first game of the Israel Softball Association Finals on Tuesday, the Mean Judeans of Dimona pulled off a 6-3 victory in eight innings over Penticon.
A pitching duel between Penticon's Ami Baran and Elyaheed Ben Israel of Dimona left the score at 2-1 in the bottom of the sixth, with Mark Mayerfeld's triple the big hit for Penticon. Penticon struck with two runs off of reliever Yarone Ben-Israel on errors to edge ahead 3-2.
Dimona then tied the game 3-3 in the top half of the seventh when a misplayed fly ball hit by teen Tahby Ben Israel resulted in an inside-the-park home run. Three runs in extra inning In the extra inning, Dimona scored three runs on RBI doubles by Akhaziya Ben Israel and Amikhai Ben Israel, and an RBI single by Tahby.
Penticon threatened in their half of the inning with runners on first and second and no outs and big gun Baran up to bat. Baran hit a sharp grounder to shortstop Elinatan who tagged the runner and flipped to the second baseman Nativiyah for a nifty double play to quash the rally.
Game 2 of the Finals was played last night at the Baptist Village, but ended after press time.
