Traditionally known as “Soul Vegetarian on Wheels,” the popular mobile vegan food supplier celebrated the Grand Opening of its new Take-Out Restaurant on Shabbat (Saturday) April 24.
About 300 attendees crowded the storefront from 2 to 8 p.m. to enjoy menu items at 50 percent off, free food samples and new menu items such as pizza pockets, Jamaican patties, milkshakes and soy bean ice cream. The soy bean ice cream, Dream Cream, included vanilla bean, carob chocolate, and butter pecan flavors.
The Festivities featured remarks from founders, Ahmatsiyah and Daniella Rahm. Special guests Nasik (Prince) Rahm Ben Yehuda, who is the head of the Atlanta Jurisdiction of the African Hebrew Israelite Community, also shared a few words at the opening. He was among many representing Soul Vegetarian Restaurants in Atlanta and Houston.
“It was remarkable to see hundreds of people who stood in the lines sampling the various foods, desserts, soya ice creams for five hours straight,” Nasik Rahm said. “In all these years, I've never seen anything like it."
Attendees also enjoyed African drumming by the African Caribbean Dance Theatre, local craft vendors and live music. Restaurant owners even showcased a Solar Cooker, which they advocated as the latest green innovative means to prepare food. Due to an overcast, customers were unable to sample the food intended to be prepared by this process.
