Company recalls 21.7 million pounds of beef

New Jersey firm expands recall because of E. coli concerns
Associated Press

TRENTON, N.J. - The Topps Meat Co. on Saturday expanded its recall of frozen hamburger patties to include 21.7 million pounds of ground beef that may be contaminated with E. coli bacteria that sickened more than a dozen people in eight states.

The recall of products distributed to retail grocery stores and food service institutions in the United States was a drastic increase from the 332,000 pounds recalled Tuesday.

The recall represents all Topps products with either a sell by date or a best if used by date between Sept. 25 this year and Sept. 25, 2008. The Elizabeth-based company said this information is found on a package s back panel.

All recalled products also have a USDA establishment number of EST 9748, which is located on the back panel of the package and-or in the USDA legend, the company said.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture said Friday it had suspended the grinding of raw products at the Topps plant after inspectors found inadequate safety measures at the Topps plant. The USDA declined to detail the inadequate safety measures.

A full list of the recalled products is available at http://www.toppsmeat.com/.

Topps Meat to close down after meat recall

Big frozen hamburger maker goes out of business after E. coli scare
Associated Press

NEWARK, N.J. - Topps Meat Co. on Friday said it was closing its business, six days after it was forced to issue the second-largest beef recall in U.S. history and 67 years after it first opened its doors.

The decision will cost 87 people their jobs, Topps said. On Sept. 25 Topps began recalling frozen hamburger patties that may have been contaminated with the potentially fatal E. coli bacteria strain O157:H7. The recall eventually ballooned to 21.7 million pounds of ground beef.

Thirty people in eight states had E. coli infections matching the strain found in the Topps patties, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reported. None have died.
"This is tragic for all concerned," said Topps chief operating officer Anthony D'Urso, a member of the family that founded the company in 1940.

The Biblical High Holydays and the Appointed Seasons of Yah

On this side of Yom Kippur 2007
By Yehuda H. Cohane

We have come to the end of Succoth 2007 (The Feast Of Tabernacles); an eight-day High Holy Festive Celebration wherein the first and eighth day of this period are recognized as Sabbath Festivals.

“And Yah spoke unto Moses, ‘saying speak unto the children of Israel, saying the fifteenth day of this seventh month shall be the Feast of Tabernacles for seven days unto Yah. On the first day shall be an holy convocation: you shall do no servile work therein. Seven days you shall offer an offering made by fire unto Yah. On the eighth day shall be an holy convocation unto you; and you shall make an offering made by fire unto Yah: it is a solemn assembly; and you shall do no servile work therein.

Also in the fifteenth day of the seventh month, when you have gathered in the fruit of the land, you shall keep a feast unto Yah seven days. On the first day shall be a Sabbath, and on the eighth day shall be a Sabbath. And you shall take on the first day the boughs of goodly trees, branches of palm trees and the boughs of thick trees and willows of the brook; and you shall rejoice before Yah seven days. And you shall keep it a feast unto Yah seven days in the year. It shall be a statute forever in your generations: you shall celebrate it in the seventh month. You shall dwell in booths seven days; all that are Israelites shall dwell in booths; that your generations may know that I made the children of Israel to dwell in booths, when I brought them out of the land of Egypt: I am Yah Yahwah. And Moses declared unto the Children of Israel the feasts of Yah.

Leviticus 22:33-36, 39-44

Succoth is a very festive time; all sons and daughters of the Most High are to be full of expressions of thanksgiving, gratitude and appreciation. Succoth, immediately follows Yom Kippur (The Day of Atonement), a time wherein the The sons and daughters of Yah have been reconciled with Him. During the Holy Convocation that closes out Yom Kippur, the message for the new spiritual season is sent forth from Jerusalem. The New spiritual season is proclaimed, so that we can evolve to the next level of consciousness and oneness with Yah.

“And in that day you shall say, O Yah you were angry with me, your anger is turned away, and you comforted me. Behold, Yah is my salvation; I will trust and not be afraid; for Yah even Yah Yahwah is my strength and my song; he also is become my salvation. Therefore, with joy shall you draw water out of wells of salvation. And in that day shall you say, Praise Yah, call upon his name, declare his doings among the people, make mention that his name is exalted. Sing unto Yah; for he has done excellent things. This is known in all the earth. Cry out and shout, you inhabitant of Zion; for great is the Holy One of Yisrael in the midst of you."

Isaiah 12:1-6

The Holy Season of Succoth is a pilgrimage feast, one of three pilgrimage feasts established by the Holy One of Israel. The other two pilgrimage feasts are the Feast of Unleavened Bread/Khag Hamatsote, and Shavuote/The Feast of Weeks (Feast of the Harvest/First Fruit). During these three pilgrimage feasts, every male among the Children of Israel must be accounted for at Jerusalem, as recorded in the sacred writings of the Book of Deuteronomy, the sixteenth chapter. Historically, every male had to present himself before the Throne of Yah to present an offering. He could not come empty-handed. If he could not journey up to Jerusalem, he was to present his offering unto the Priest where he lives or to the widows and the fatherless.

Succoth is a season of great thanksgiving in that we have arrived on the other side of Yom Kippur, the day of Yah’s judgment, having been atoned with the Holy One of Israel and our people and reconciled back unto His Holy will. The joy is overflowing the wells of salvation as we are being gathered back into the land of our origin, Israel, to shine the light of Yah’s intellect and knowledge upon all men, bringing forth a new, blessed existence for the Adamic/Edenic Family. Our application of Yah’s laws and instructions removes the curses, plagues, death and destruction which ruled over us under the satanic, liberal, democratic knowledge of the Euro-gentile civilization and causes our re-entry into the cycles of everlasting life. As we continue to elevate in the higher realms of Yah’s intellect and knowledge, we shall reap the blessings of abundant health, loving families, peaceful neighborhoods, clean environments and a care-free society. We pray that all men can experience these blessings by adhering to this truth, which is being disseminated from Zion.

“Succah” in the Hebrew language means “booth, tabernacle, or temporary dwelling place.” The significance of keeping this High Holy Day is to cause us to remember that Yah made our fathers to dwell in booths/tents during their sojourn in the wilderness (ancient and contemporary), after the exodus from Egypt. This kind of dwelling was vital to our fathers because at that time they were continually on the move. This was a transitional state for Israel, the nomadic lifestyle which they were to experience before re-entering Caanan, the Promised Land to settle permanently. These booths could be easily dismantled and reconstructed at the next camp site. This historical background is significant and should be thoroughly taught and understood during the celebration of Succoth.

Succoth is the spiritual and physical fulfillment of that evolutionary transition because the state of mind of the previous season will not guarantee passage into the new season. A spiritual and physical paradigm shift is required for us to meet the standards of the new season. This shift can only occur through recognizing that the spiritual mode of the previous season has now been elevated and we must rise to this new conciousnesss.

The Spiritual Signifigance of the Sabbath and Holydays by the Prophetic Priesthood at Jerusalem

It is as if the canvas that one would use to reassemble his succah, tent/tabernacle for the next spiritual year would be composed of the critical message of the season that is disclosed at Yom Kippur; this is the shelter that protects and nurtures us. For around this message we construct our lives.

During this year’s Yom Kippur season, we are to be reminded of the great spiritual tenets of being our brothers’ keeper, afflicting the soul; the value of forgiveness, and Culture being observable worship.

We are to be our brother’s keeper and our brother’s protector; for we have been together humbling ourselves in the midst of one another throughout this redemptive struggle. Our lives are interdependently intertwined, and will be eternally.

Afflicting our soul, making a sincere effort to remove all arrogance from ourselves, to convince the offended that we are truly sorry, truly repentant and remorseful. In much the same way that historically the Adamic/Edenic family had to repent unto the resurrection and restoration of the marriage between themselves and Yah. We can never forget, our courtship with the Creator was 33 years after the divorce which lasted for thousands of years.

The forgiving of an unrepentant evildoer is an abomination unto Yah. Forgiveness must be valued greatly; so much so that when one is forgiven for their offenses they will experience such great true joy and appreciation for which there is no substitute. Afflicting the soul is a reminder for us that forgiveness must have value. We cannot be so easy to dismiss offenses against The Most High, and against one another, because the offender may never learn to appreciate the process of reconciliation and the value of forgiveness.

Culture is observable worship. This season is the season of the Great Ascension of Kingdom Culture, Yah having risen His High, Holy and Sacred culture upon thee, let your culture so shine before men that they may see the elegance of Yah the one true and living God upon you.

Arise, shine; for thy light is come, and the glory of the Lord is risen upon thee.
For; …behold, the darkness (a culture of darkness) covers the earth, and gross darkness the people. but the Lord shall arise upon thee, and his glory shall be seen upon thee.
And the Gentiles shall come to thy light, and kings to the brightness of thy rising.

Goal-driven achievers less prone to Alzheimer's

Purposeful personality may guard brain against decline, researcher says
Associated Press

CHICAGO - A surprising study of elderly people suggests that those who see themselves as self-disciplined, organized achievers have a lower risk for developing Alzheimer's disease than people who are less conscientious.

A purposeful personality may somehow protect the brain, perhaps by increasing neural connections that can act as a reserve against mental decline, said study co-author Robert Wilson of Chicago's Rush University Medical Center. Astoundingly, the brains of some of the dutiful people in the study were examined after their deaths and were found to have lesions that would meet accepted criteria for Alzheimer's - even though these people had shown no signs of dementia.

"This adds to our knowledge that lifestyle, personality, how we think, feel and behave are very importantly tied up with risk for this terrible illness," Wilson said. "It may suggest new ideas for trying to delay the onset of this illness."

An Apple a Day

How the famed fruit protects the brain
By Psychology Today.com

An apple a day keeps the doctor away, as the saying goes. And not just any doctor. An apple a day may help keep the neurologist away—along with the cognitive decline that often accompanies aging and neurodegenerative diseases like Alzheimer's and Parkinson's.

Food scientist Chang Y. Lee recently found that a nutrient in apples can protect rat brain cells from damage. The nutrient, an antioxidant called quercetin, provided even more protection than Vitamin C, which is known to combat neurodegenerative diseases in humans.
