The Ministry of Industry, Trade and Labor has issued its first certificate for a kibbutz communal association for the Black Hebrew community, to be called Shomrei Shalom. The kibbutz will be built on a 70-dunam (17.5-acre) site allocated by the Ministry of Housing and Construction in the jurisdiction of the Dimona municipality. It will become one of the three largest municipal kibbutzim in Israel, with 1,500 members, all from the Black Hebrew community. The kibbutz will be open to any person, without restriction.
The registration process began when MK Avraham Poraz (Shinui) was minister of the interior, and after members of the Black Hebrew community began serving with the IDF.
Shomrei Shalom will be based on the Black Hebrew community's lifestyle and spiritual values. Members livelihoods will be based on the production and marketing of natural foods. The community is considering producing special foods for a number of companies.
