Storms and Flooding hits US – from Illinois to Washington DC

Story complied by Yoeelah E.N. Aharon (KNN Reporter)

Second day of storms hits Midwest hard Wind and rain wreak havoc on Ohio, Illinois. By Thomas J. Sheeran, Associated Press

Severe storms pounded the upper Midwest with strong winds and heavy rain for a second day Thursday and were blamed for the death of a firefighter who tried to rescue two teenagers from rising floodwaters.
Al Anderson Jr., 47, was trying to get to the teens, whose Jeep had gotten stuck, when he drowned in Wellington, Ohio, about 40 miles southwest of Cleveland, authorities said. The teens were rescued. Near Logan, Ohio, nine people were injured Thursday afternoon when lightning struck a shelter during a charity run, according to the State Highway Patrol. One had life-threatening injuries. In Indiana, strong thunderstorms prompted numerous storm and flash flood warnings from the National Weather Service and left behind widespread reports of damaged homes, downed trees and blown over semi-trailers.
A lightning strike in Indianapolis sent six firefighter trainees to a hospital, although officials said none of the injuries appeared serious. The site of the U.S. track and field championships was evacuated twice as storms moved through the downtown area.
On Wednesday, 5 inches of rain fell in a five-hour span in the Toledo, Ohio, area, 56 mph wind gusts and golf ball-size hail pelted northern Ohio, and tornadoes were reported in Michigan, the National Weather Service said.

Flooding cripples Washington
Tue Jun 27, 2006 12:19am ET By Randall Mikkelsen-Reuters News Service

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Torrential rain soaked the U.S. capital, toppled a century-old elm tree at the White House, closed the home of the Declaration of Independence and kept tax collectors from work on Monday.
With as much as 7 inches of rain falling since Sunday in an East Coast deluge, flooded basements or power outages forced the Internal Revenue Service, Commerce Department, Justice Department and the National Archives to close. The federal government told its 280,000 area workers they could take leave if they were unable to get to work. The Justice Department's main building, where hoses pumped out a flooded basement, would stay closed all week, authorities said. See: Flooding cripples Washington

Israel: Eddie Butler involved in New World Passover celebrations

Luke Fisher reporting from Kent (United Kingdom)
Israel's Eddie Butler was present at celebrations marking the 39th anniversary of the Hewbrew Israelite ''exodus'' from the United States. He was part of the ''New-World Passover'' festivities. Ben Ammi Ben- leader of the groups that left the American shores, spoke to online journal Haaretz.com about Eddie Butler- himself with American origins. ''We're always excited about representing Israel,'' Ben Ammi responded, when asked about the community's singer Eddie Butler, who was an enthusiastic envoy of Israel at the Eurovision Song Contest this month.Eddie Butler's song finished in the penultimate postion out of the 24 contestants. This was initially disappointing, however Ben Ammi conceded ''After we considered who won, we knew that the mindset of the people was not ready for the light from Israel.'' In fact, Ben Ammi said that Israel actually emerged as a winner by displaying a unique harmony on stage: ''They (the audience) saw black, they saw white, they saw talent, they saw togetherness, they saw brotherhood. On that stage, they saw Israel in its fullness. That's what we represented. And in that category, we won the Eurovision for Israel.''

Obesity Driving Diabetes Epidemic

New study confirms experts' suspicions that it's a major factor in troubling trend-ABC News

America's obesity epidemic is definitely driving the nation's type 2 diabetes epidemic, says a new study by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. While other factors play some role in the rapidly increasing number of people with diabetes, obesity is the major factor in the trend, said Linda S. Geiss, lead author of the study, published in the May issue of the American Journal of Preventive Medicine. The study, based on concrete numbers drawn from the entire country, backs up what experts have long believed, said Geiss, a statistician with the CDC's Division of Diabetes Translation.

"Most incidence studies [of diabetes] have been done on samples that aren't representative of the United States," she said. "These [new] data are nationally representative. And these data certainly help make the case that obesity is a major factor in the diabetes epidemic. I think it adds to the evidence." See: Obesity Driving Diabetes Epidemic

The Hebrew Israelite Community is in the best of health!!!

"They have no cancer, they have no heart attacks and African states come to learn from them their secret of right living ."

THE HEBREW NEWSPAPER, YIDIOTE AKRONOTE (LARGEST HEBREW NEWSPAPER IN THE COUNTRY) - Writer Eetimar Eckner

Some of the ministries of health that have been referred to the Israeli embassies in their countries in request that they put them in contact with the Community in order that they are able to benefit from this Model of Life.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs is agreeing that they have a great interest in the Community being the health model for the world and being an example for
community villages living healthy lifestyles and being devoid of modern-day diseases.

And when the Ministry understood the huge and enormous potential, they decided to cooperate and participate, and today, they are assisting in marketing the Community to the world their Model of Life. And besides visiting delegations in the Holy Land, the Community is also carrying out activities with foreign ministries of information, mainly in Africa, and sharing much of their lifestyle in the subjects and topics on public health and preventive medicine.

On the situation of the Community's improved health, testimony of Emmanuel Ben Yehuda, person responsible for the Community's connection with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, "in the 37 years that we are in Israel, we have had just one case of stroke and two cases of cancer. And no one has had a heart attack, and not ever one case of aids. Some medical centers in the U.S. have investigated the lifestyle of our Community and determined that we succeeded to triumph in being victorious over heart disease and problems of high blood pressure because of our healthy lifestyle."

Then what is their secret? According to spokesman Emmanuel, members of the Community eat natural foods, are commanders in doing sports and fasting one day in the week. Every member of the Community is obligated to get a massage or reflexology treatment at least once a month. The children stay away from sweets, the adults don't touch coffee or alcohol and very little usage of salt. The main nutrition comes from soya products, fruits, organic vegetables, grains and almonds.

"All diseases like cancer, aides, and heart disease are born out of the result of bad health habits," explains Emmanuel. "We presented to the African states that in changing your lifestyle, it is possible to cause these diseases to disappear." "We have already hosted African delegations that are requesting to learn how to benefits from our Health Model and we are very proud to be in cooperation with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Health. We are proud as Israelis to assist in strengthening the connection and ties of Israel with developing states and countries in Africa and to instruct and to show the world the great abilities that we have established in Israel."

"Already today, there are thousands of people in Africa that have adopted our lifestyle. It is without a doubt a wonderful, glorious and terrific vessel and tool for these foreign countries to strengthen their relationships and this understanding with other countries in the world."

Firm selling land on the moon

Red Planet sales puts firm in pink - BBC News
Efforts to explore Mars are benefiting a Cornish website selling plots of land.

St Austell firm Moonestates.com has been selling off chunks of the moon since 2000, when it bought the UK franchise for "land sales across the solar system" from American businessman Dennis Hope.
But now the announcement by US President George W Bush that the Moon is to be used as a stepping stone for a mission to Mars has excited a flood of interest in Martian property.
One-acre plots, which are soSue Williams from Moonestates said: "Dennis Hope realised there was a loophole in the United Nations Outer Space Treaty of 1967.
"That basically says that no country or government can lay claim to extraterrestrial land, but it forgot to say no person could.
"He basically filed his claim with the United Nations in 1980 and has been selling the land since.
"We've looked into it very carefully and this loophole does exist. Even ex-presidents of the United States Ronald Regan and Jimmy Carter have become land-owners on Mars and the Moon, I believe."
She said there had been much interest in Mars, particularly since Britain's Beagle Two mission and America's Martian rovers Spirit and Opportunity landed.
However, not all of the planet is up for grabs. Dennis Hope said areas would be kept for the benefit of humanity.
Sue Williams said: "Sites of scientific interest have been put aside for all of mankind and Dennis isn't selling those."
But if anyone does buy a plot and wants to visit, they will have to prepare to wrap up warm as the temperatures drop to about -73C at midnight.
They will also have to their own air, as they will not be able to breathe the thin atmosphere.
But some customers have bought the plots as gifts.
Sue Williams said: "We have a lot of people who buy plots of the Moon for their partner.
"They say 'I promised them the earth, but at least I can give them a part of the Moon'."
The British National Space Centre said it was not aware of any complaints about the selling of land on the Moon and on Mars. ld with a deed, constitution, property map, mineral rights and a copy of the original Declaration of Ownership are being sold for about £20.

High heels and your health

MSN Health By MayoClinic.com
Shoes are your passion. You love shopping for them, trying them on and — most of all — buying them. High heels are the mainstay of your professional image and a highlight of dressing for nights on the town.
But your feet don't feel so great, and they look even worse. Forced too often into the tight confines of the narrow toe box of your high heels, your toes have bent into an unnatural position. As a result, you've developed bumps and areas of thickened skin that rub painfully against your shoes. Are your beloved high heels the source of your foot problems?
In fact, they probably are. High heels are one of the biggest factors leading to foot problems in women. The other is age. Frequently wearing high heels, along with the natural changes in your aging feet, can set the stage for foot problems.
How aging affects your feet
Over time, your feet become wider and longer and the natural padding under your heel and forefoot thins. Years of standing and walking flatten your arches and stiffen your feet and ankles. When you wear high heels — shoes with a heel 2 inches or higher — your foot slides forward in your shoe, redistributing your weight, creating unnatural pressure points and throwing your body's natural alignment out of whack.

Grotesque scandal like a 'cheap horror movie'

Body-parts company spread disease, desecrated the dead for profit-Associated Press 6/13/06

It was Mastromarino who built a business that took from the dead and gave to the living. There are many legitimate businesses that do this, but authorities say Mastromarino’s company, Biomedical Tissue Services, was not one of them.
BTS, they say, secretly carved up hundreds of cadavers without the families of the deceased knowing about it, then peddled the pieces on the lucrative non-organ body parts market.
Even scarier: They say BTS doctored paperwork to hide the inconvenient fact that some of the dead were old and diseased. As a result, they say, the market was flooded with potentially tainted tissue, and an untold number of patients across the country may have received infections along with their dental implants and hip replacements.
And it might have gone on indefinitely — except for an innocent phone call made by a doctor in Colorado, and a detective’s chance visit to a funeral parlor. Read More: Grotesque scandal like a 'cheap horror movie'

Type 2 diabetes grows as public health threat

Nearly 15 million Americans have the disease; many cases preventable-Chief science and health correspondent-NBC News
Updated: 7:42 p.m. ET June 12, 2006
NEW YORK - Every day the Naomi Berrie Diabetes Center at Columbia University Medical Center is busy — with new and returning patients.
Director Dr. Robin Goland says its is a major problem in every hospital.
"Ten percent of patients on a medical service in a hospital have diabetes," she says. "Fifty percent of patients on a vascular surgery service have diabetes." Diabetes is the inability to metabolize sugar properly — so it builds up in the blood. Type 1, a genetic disease that usually strikes in childhood, is not increasing. The big change is with Type 2 — caused partly by obesity.
In just a decade, the number of Americans diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes more than doubled to 14.7 million and the government estimates more than 5 million others have it and don't know it. "These are people that have no opportunity to control the blood sugar, and these are people who find out about the diabetes when they discover a complication," says Dr. Garland. The complications include damage to the entire circulatory system — which in turn can cause heart attacks, blindness, loss of arms and legs, kidney damage and stroke. But it does not have to happen. After David Elkins was diagnosed two years ago, he lost 35 pounds and started exercising regularly. Now his blood sugar is normal.
"It's great to be able to feel like I'm in shape," he says.
A simple blood test can detect whether a person's blood sugar is moving toward diabetic level. Experts recommend that everyone 45 and older, obese or with a family history of diabetes, get the test.
Research released Monday suggests that if people find out they have slightly elevated blood sugar and make some modest lifestyle changes, millions of cases of diabetes could be prevented. See: Diabetes grows as public health threat Video

Olive Oil

By Dr. Baruch

A study published in the March 2004 issue of Medical Science Monitorreported that 2 tablespoons a day of olive oil added to an otherwiseunchanged diet in 28 outpatients, ranging in age from 64 to 71,resulted in significant drops in total and LDL cholesterolPublished studies link the judicious use of olive oil to reducing theeffect of a growing list of ailments. For example, Greek women have a42% lower rate of breast cancer than women in the U.S.Olive oil is recognized as important in maintaining metabolism andcontributes to the development of the brain and bones in children. Itis also recommended as a source of vitamin E for older people. Anatural anti-oxidant, olive oil slows down the natural aging process. It also slows down acid overproduction in the digestive system therebyreducing the risk for ulcers and other gastrointestinal problems. There is also a low incidence of skin cancer among Mediterraneanpopulations, and olive oil consumption could be a contributing factorto this low skin cancer rate. Olive oil contains significantly higheramounts of Squalene than other seed oils, and Squalene is to a largeextent transferred to the skin. German researchers believe that thistransfer mechanism is probably accomplished by scavenging singletoxygen generated by ultraviolet light. Japanese scientists also claimthat virgin olive oil applied to the skin after sunbathing couldprotect against skin cancer by slowing tumor growth. The Wholefood Farmacy’s Heart of Gold is made from Extra Virgin OliveOil, Walnut Oil, Avocado Oil, Grape Seed Oil, Orange Oil, & 24 CaratMedicinal Gold. How Long Will America Lead the World?

The United States is still the dominant force in technology, innovation, productivity and profits. But Americans don't quite realize how fast the rest of the world is catching up. Newsweek-June 12, 2006 Issue
Much of the concern centers on the erosion of science and technology in the U.S., particularly in education. Eight months ago, the national academies of sciences, engineering and medicine came together to put out a report that argued that the "scientific and technical building blocks of our economic leadership are eroding at a time when many nations are gathering strength." There are some who see the decline of science and technology as part of a larger cultural decay. A country that once adhered to a Puritan ethic of delayed gratification has become one that revels in instant pleasures. We're losing interest in the basics—math, manufacturing, hard work, savings—and becoming a postindustrial society that specializes in consumption and leisure. "More people will graduate in the United States in 2006 with sports-exercise degrees than electrical-engineering degrees," says Immelt. "So, if we want to be the massage capital of the world, we're well on our way." America's problem right now is that it is not really that scared. There is an intelligent debate about these issues among corporate executives, writers and the thin sliver of the public than is informed on these issues. But mainstream America is still unconcerned. Partly this is because these trends are operating at an early stage and somewhat under the surface. Americans do not really know how fast the rest of the world is catching up. Our greatest danger is that when the American public does begin to get scared, they will try to shut down the very features of the country that have made it so successful. They will want to shut out foreign companies, be less welcoming to immigrants and close themselves off from competition and collaboration. Over the past year there have already been growing paranoia on all these fronts. If we go down this path, we will remain a rich country and a stable one. We will be less troubled by the jarring changes that the new world is pushing forward. But like Britain after Queen Victoria's reign, it will be a future of slow, steady national decline. History will happen to us after all.

Gay marriage ban defeated in Senate vote

WASHINGTON - The Senate on Wednesday rejected a constitutional amendment to ban gay marriage, dealing a defeat to President Bush and Republicans who hope to use the measure to energize conservative voters on Election Day. Democrats said the debate was a divisive political ploy. “The Republican leadership is asking us to spend time writing bigotry into the Constitution,” said Sen. Edward Kennedy of Massachusetts, which legalized gay marriage in 2003.
“A vote for it is a vote against civil unions, against domestic partnership, against all other efforts for states to treat gays and lesbians fairly under the law.” Click Here: http://msnbc.msn.com/id/13181735/

Making the transition to Wellness

By Ahturah Malcah-St. Louis
Everything on this planet is a by-product of some ones thinking. Health also begins in the mind. Once you have determined in your mind to obtain and maintain good health, the battle is won.

“The longest journey begins with the first step”

It is the start that stops most people. Whatever you commit yourself to, will happen. People willing to help, will be drawn to you. Information will come to you. You will suddenly have the time you thought was not available.

The world is stricken with degenerative diseases. Over ninety percent of these maladies come from poor food choices. The Standard American Diet, SAD, is extremely unhealthy. The American diet is high in fat, processed foods, refined sugars, salt, preservatives, and chemicals. This way of living (dying) is killing us.

Our grandparents ate fewer animal products due to the expense of meat, and exercised more than the current generation. Do you ever wonder how much longer our grandparents might have lived had they not changed to an animal based diet in their later years? We now see chronic diseases in our children. This is insanity.

Making the transition will not be easy. Many special interests are betting you will continue down the same path of diet, disease, and death. Billions of dollars are spent annually to condition you into thinking disease and death is normal. Do we need another commercial touting the benefits of a pill while it destroys our organs? What we require is someone to teach us how to return to the proper diet and lifestyle that will lead to longevity and quality of life.

“Your health is your wealth”. Just think about all the rich and famous personalities that died prematurely. Their money could not save them, but a new understanding could. We teach holistic health and nutrition that promotes life and eliminates disease. We recommend a plant-based diet rather than an animal-based diet.

Many people desire a healthy lifestyle but do not know how to get started. We can help you through awareness and education. We encourage you to take the first step. Please contact us at 314-837-9777 for further information or e-mail us at fisherwellness@sbcglobal.net.

Cleveland braces for another deadly summer

Five people killed in separate slayings across Cleveland
Sunday, June 04, 2006
Donna J. Miller and Steve LuttnerPlain Dealer Reporters
In less than 48 hours, four men and a teenage boy were killed in unrelated homicides in Cleveland. A 48-year-old man died at Huron Hospital on Saturday after he was shot in a driveway in the 1900 block of East 89th Street. Police did not disclose the man's name because relatives had not yet been contacted.
The man was working on a vehicle in the driveway about 6:15 p.m. when someone approached, fired several shots at him and then fled, said Sgt. Dan Galmarini, a police spokesman. About 15 hours earlier, several men pulled Dawud Salim, 37, from his car, which was stopped at a red light on Lorain Avenue at Fulton Road, Galmarini said.
Salim was beaten and stabbed in the chest before he was able to get back into his car. The unknown assailants were driving a red or maroon car, a witness told police.
About 1:15 a.m. Friday, Russell Sutich, 30, was shot several times when he tried to break up a group of men loitering or dealing drugs outside Helen's Tavern on Storer Avenue. Neil Losch, 22, is charged with aggravated homicide. A possible accomplice, Gregory Sheppard II, 19, was in police custody on Saturday.
At 10:40 p.m. Friday, Davontae Pearson, 15, of Warrensville Heights, was fatally stabbed by a man who told police that he was defending himself against Pearson and two other teens who jumped him in the 3900 block of East 146th Street, Galmarini said.
The man, 29, also stabbed one of the 17-year-olds who was with Pearson. William Price is recovering at MetroHealth Medical Center. The man said he was walking home from work and had the knife for self-defense. He was arrested, but not charged, while detectives investigate.
In the fifth homicide, police are looking for Kevin L. Nance, 31, a suspect in the fatal shooting of Lambert C. Collins Jr., 36. Collins was shot about 9:30 p.m. Thursday while arguing with another man on a Colgate Avenue front porch.

Black men torn between promise and doubt

Poll respondents relay optimism, disappointment in themselves By Steven A. Holmes and Richard Morin-Washington Post
Black men in America today are deeply divided over the way they see themselves and their country.
Black men report the same ambitions as most Americans -- for career success, a loving marriage, children, respect. And yet most are harshly critical of other black men, associating the group with irresponsibility and crime.
Black men describe a society rife with opportunities for advancement and models for success. But they also express a deep fear that their hold on the good life is fragile, in part because of discrimination they continue to experience in their daily lives.

More mothers choose midwives for delivery

Number of women giving birth without a doctor has doubled since 1990-Associated Press-May 31, 2006
The number of women giving birth with a midwife has doubled since 1990, both in absolute numbers and as a percentage of overall births. According to data from the National Center for Health Statistics for 2003, the most recent year for which data is available, 8 percent of pregnant women in the U.S. gave birth with a midwife compared with 4 percent in 1990. Births attended by a certified nurse midwife, for example, have risen every year since 1975. But choosing a midwife is about more than merely selecting a care provider or deciding between birth at a hospital or home. It represents a paradigm shift in how a woman approaches pregnancy, advocates say. Although certified nurse midwives are licensed to administer medication, they generally encourage a drug-free birth and rely primarily on natural methods of care. Click Here:

Actors Give Baby Hebrew Names

Brangelina baby name translates to ‘Messiah’-Shiloh is the Hebrew word for ‘Messiah’ and also means ‘peaceful one’-MSN News
NEW YORK - Nothing was normal about the birth of Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt’s child, so naturally, neither was their baby’s name.
The child — whose pending arrival created a frenzy of hyperbole making it for some the most awaited baby since Jesus — was named Shiloh, which fittingly means “Messiah” or “Peaceful One.”
Shiloh Nouvel Jolie-Pitt was born Saturday evening — via Caesarean section, according to People magazine — in Namibia where her famous parents had withdrawn for the birth, aided by considerable protection from the African country’s government...“What is interesting is Brad and Angelina went all the way to Namibia to have their baby girl and rather than choose a traditional African name to signify the birth — like many thought they would — they chose Shiloh, also meaning ‘God is great’ in Hebrew,” says Lansky.
Shiloh Nouvel Jolie-Pitt is only the latest instance of a unique name bestowed on a celebrity child. Lately, names rooted in Hebrew are all the rage.
Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes’ baby, who was preceded by nearly as much anticipation as Jolie and Pitt’s, was famously named Suri, which the couple claimed means “princess” in Hebrew (or “red rose” in Persian). Some doubted the Hebrew origin, instead suggesting the more accurate meaning was “pointy nose” from Todas, a language spoken by a Southern India tribe.
Gwyneth Paltrow and Chris Martin named their second child Moses, born in April. Their first child, Apple, remains one of the most renown examples of esoteric names given to celebrity babies.

Do You Know Where Your Child Is?

Thousands of missing children not reported in EU May 24, 2006 — By Darren Ennis -Reuters-ABC News

BRUSSELS (Reuters) - Hundreds of children go missing in Europe every day without being reported to the authorities, the European Union's justice chief said on Wednesday. Justice Commissioner Franco Frattini said he believed some of the 25 EU countries were not taking the issue seriously and it was impossible to determine the size of the problem. According to statistics available to the Commission, an estimated 70,000 children go missing every year in Britain.
Yet the data show a far smaller number of children — 1,850 — went missing in Italy last year, while in Belgium 1,022 missing children were reported to the police.

Hebrew Israelites hail Eurovision 'win'

By Ira Moskowitz - Haarezt.com 5/27/06
The Hebrew Israelite community in Dimona marked the 39th anniversary of its "exodus" from the United States this week with a two-day "New World Passover" celebration. Hundreds of guests - including a number of foreign delegations - joined over 1,000 local participants in the festivities, which culminated last night with performances by two members of the local community: Eddie Butler, who represented Israel in the Eurovision song contest last weekend, and Shadahyah, who is about to embark on a world tour. Dimona Mean Judeans whips Zion Tours

Jerusalem Post Sports.com
Zion Tours risked a loss by starting Noam Zwilling as pitcher for development purposes. Zwilling, who has lots of speed but also has control issues, is improving, and coach Richard Duffy saw it as an investment for the future. The majority of Dimona's 14 runs scored on walks and wild pitches as pitcher Yaron Ben Israel kept the Zion Tours bats in check.

Global warming risk 'much higher'

By Richard Black Environment Correspondent, BBC News website

Global temperatures will rise further in the future than previous studies have indicated, according to new research from two scientific teams.
They both used historical records to calculate the likely amplification of warming as higher temperatures induce release of CO2 from ecosystems.
They both conclude that current estimates of warming are too low, by anything up to 75%. It predicts that the global average temperature would rise by between 1.5C and 4.5C if human activities were to double the amount of carbon dioxide (CO2) in the atmosphere.

Diet and Behavior

By Dr. Baruch
The recent study on the correlation between diet and behavior in one set of identical twins, showing a dramatic increase in IQ test results and decrease in discipline problems in the twin on an additive-free diet, is only the latest in a series of similar studies. Dr Bernard Gesch, a research scientist in physiology, carried out a Home Office-backed study on inmates at a maximum security facility in Aylesbury which had dramatic results: among those inmates on a regime of dietary supplements, serious disciplinary offences (including acts of violence) dropped by 37% - once the study was concluded and the prisoners returned to their usual diets, the prison staff reported a rise in violence against them of 40%.

During his presentation to the Associate Parliamentary Food And Health Forum (FHF) regarding the Aylesbury experiment, Dr Gesch outlined nine previous studies by a number of researchers on both sides of the Atlantic drawing strong relationships between diet and behavior in prison or school situations dating from between 1976 and 2003 - not one of which was funded for follow-up. He also points out that the diet of the general population has changed dramatically over the past few decades from fresh whole foods to highly refined and processed packaged foods - it is also worth noting that our intake of animal products is drastically higher than it was before WWII, and at the same time livestock has become more exposed to chemicals (herbicides, pesticides, antibiotics, etc.) than ever before, leading to unprecedented levels of
pollution of groundwater in both Britain and America; at the same time, levels of physical activity have dropped alarmingly. Dr Gesch lists in his presentation the many deficiencies in trace elements detected in the offenders at Aylesbury.

Dr Joseph Hibbeln5 followed Dr Gesch's presentation by pointing out that
the change in diet has resulted in dramatic changes in the ratio of
Omega fatty acids consumed by Americans, and that the intake of these
essential fatty acids is crucial to the formation of the brain. In
other words, the formation of every system and function of the body is
affected by diet, and the average western diet is not only lower in
nutritional value than it was a few decades ago, but even the
healthiest diet is lower in nutrients due to the rapid deterioration of
topsoil in the age of industrial farming. Dr Hibbeln referenced five
major studies on links between food and behavior, and added that Dr
Gesch's conclusions were in line with cross-cultural epidemiological6
and long-term studies on links between diet and behavior, and with the
known 'neurochemical mechanism(s) related to violence and impulsive
behaviors'.

To make matters worse, heavy drug use can have an adverse impact on the
absorption and retention of nutrients, and many prisoners either have
drug problems on entering the prison system or acquire one once inside.
Further, Dr Gesch's Aylesbury study points to poor dietary choices made
by prisoners, which perhaps points to a general lack of awareness about
nutrition among prisoners (disproportionately drawn from poorer sections
of society due to a number of factors), and may indicate that the
general public is not as well educated on diet as is usually assumed.
The influence of food advertising, especially during childhood (the
crucial period for the physiological impact of nutrients), may well
play a significant role in the dietary choices made both by prisoners
and the general public.

As seen in the FHF presentation, Gesch and Hibbeln are not alone in
their conclusions. The nine studies Dr Gesch cited and the five
specific studies cited by Dr Hibbeln are only part of the growing body
of evidence since the 1970s that strongly supports a link between diet
and behavior. In 1997, The Sunday Times referenced several studies on
the correlation between low levels of zinc and anti-social behavior and
ADHD. Similarly, links between fatty acids, dyslexia, and behavioral
problems such as ADHD were found by researchers from Oxford University
and London's Imperial College School of Medicine during a study on
children with dyslexia and behavioral problems in Northern Ireland.
Prof. Ian Town of Christchurch School of Medicine and Health Sciences
in NZ is currently conducting a long-term study of the role of iron
deficiency in behavior, and, as a result of a study on the link between
diet and behavior in schoolchildren by Dr Charles Pollak7, the Scottish
Executive is rethinking its policy on school lunches. Initial research
into the effects of diet on aging show that a poor diet in early life
leads to an inability to use anti-oxidants, and so to early aging and
death in animals; further research will be undertaken to determine
whether the same holds true in humans.

Obviously, diet is not the sole cause of anti-social or criminal
behavior - there are many factors involved. But it does seem clear that
behavior, mental health, and the development of cognitive functions and
impulse control are directly and drastically modified by diet.
Given the Composition of Food’s (FSA) own survey of the bioavailable
nutrients in food compared with 70 years ago, the increased reliance on
processed and refined foods, the dramatic fall in consumption of Omega
fatty acids, and the available studies on diet and behavior, it would
be wise for those in the affluent global north to take serious stock of
dietary trends and habits - and their consequences.

More Flooding in US

New England rain, flooding ‘going to get worse’-State of emergency declared in N.H. and Mass. as rain swirls over region-MSNBC News Services Updated: 12:11 p.m. ET May 15, 2006
PEABODY, Mass. - A four-day deluge has turned streets into rivers across New England, flooding homes up to their door knobs, forcing dozens of schools to close because the buses couldn’t get through, and threatening dams and communities as rivers rise.
The rain was still falling Monday morning, and forecasters warned the worst was yet to come. The rain totals could hit 15 inches by afternoon, triggering the worst flooding in some areas since 1936, the National Weather Service said.
The Merrimack River, which chased more than 100 people from homes in Manchester, N.H., was more than eight feet over flood stage early Monday and rising, and the Charles and other large rivers could swamp entire neighborhoods if they spill their banks. “This is the tip of the iceberg. It’s going to get worse,” Massachusetts Emergency Management Agency spokesman Peter Judge said Sunday. “We fear that 15 rivers will be pushed over flood level or right up to flood level.” Click here for complete article: http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/12786790/?GT1=8199

7-Up Ad Claims Soda is '100 Percent Natural'-Group Threatens to Sue Beverage Maker for Using the Healthy Title-ABC News by Lisa Stark
May 11, 2006 — Amidst the juices and waters you might choose when looking for a healthy beverage, you probably wouldn't think to grab a soda to satisfy that thirst. But can you? The makers of 7-Up are now promoting the carbonated beverage as "100 percent natural," and a non-profit group wants the ads changed.
The Center for Science in the Public Interest says the ad is misleading, and wants the company to be honest with consumers. The lemon-flavored drink contains high fructose corn syrup, which they say is artificially made by extracting starch from corn and altering it with enzymes or acids.
Cadbury Schwepps, the maker of 7-Up, and says it is in fact natural, because sugar made from corn is made virtually the same way as many ingredients that are called natural.

The History Of Gasoline

Gasoline is a volatile, flammable liquid obtained from the refinement of petroleum, or crude oil. It was originally discarded as a byproduct of kerosene production, but its ability to vaporize at low temperatures made it a useful fuel for many machines. The first oil well in the United States was struck by Edwin L. Drake near Titusville, Pennsylvania, in 1859 at a depth of almost 70 feet (21 m). With the development of the four-stroke internal combustion engine by Nikolaus Otto in 1876, gasoline became essential to the automotive industry. Today, almost all gasoline is used to fuel automobiles, with a very small percentage used to power agricultural equipment and aircraft. Petroleum, a fossil fuel, supplies more energy to the world today than any other source. The United States is the world's leading consumer of petroleum; in 1994, Americans used 7,587,000 barrels of oil per day. Petroleum is formed from the remains of plants and animals that have been held under tremendous pressure for millions of years. Ordinarily, this organic matter would decompose completely with the help of scavengers and aerobic bacteria, but petroleum is created in an anaerobic environment, without the presence of oxygen. Over half of the world's known crude oil is concentrated in the Persian Gulf basin. Other major areas include the coasts of Alaska and the Gulf of Mexico.
Petroleum products, including gasoline, are primarily a mixture of hydrocarbons (molecules containing hydrogen and carbon molecules) with small amounts of other substances. Crude oil is comprised of different lengths of hydrocarbon chains, with some short chains and some very long chains. Depending on how much the oil is broken down, or refined, it may become any number of products. On average, 44.4% of petroleum becomes gasoline. There really are no waste products from petroleum. The lighter chemicals are natural gas, liquified petroleum gas (LPG), jet fuel, and kerosene. The heavier products are used for the manufacture of lubricants, plastics, and asphalt. In addition, many less valuable products can be chemically converted into more saleable compounds.

The Importance of Minerals in Your Diet

By Yoeelah E.N. Aharon (KNN Writer)

“Minerals are the most important aspect of a man’s diet. There are approximately 102 minerals in the earth and the same in the body of man. Their consumption in their “whole” form (whether cooked or raw) holds the key to the health and well-being of the Adamic soul.”
p. 114 The Resurrection by Ben Ammi

What are these minerals? Minerals. Minerals have a broad range of functions. As many as 20 minerals play significant roles in the body. “Microminerals,” (called trace minerals) or minerals that the body only needs traces of, can fight off serious illness. These include copper, iodine, chromium, iron, fluorine, tin, zinc, nickel, vanadium, manganese, silicon, molybdenum, and selenium. “Macrominerals,” or minerals that the body needs large amounts of include magnesium, sodium, potassium, chlorine, phosphorus, calcium, and sulfur. Zinc is responsible for helping metabolize proteins and keeping enzymes functioning. Copper is needed by enzymes for metabolizing. Iodine assists the thyroid gland in working properly. Calcium and phosphorus build bones and teeth. Iron delivers oxygen to the body’s cells. Potassium helps muscle contraction, maintains the fluid balance of cells, helps transmit messages through the body’s nerves, and keeps the kidneys and heart working correctly. I have only listed a few. Remember there are 102 minerals in man and in the soil. The scientific world has not even discovered all the minerals that will be available to you and they all will be found in the food that we eat. Here are a few examples: Calcium - leafy green vegetables, such as broccoli, Potassium - bananas, broccoli, tomatoes, Iron and Zinc - legumes, such as beans, peas, lentils, and peanuts. I will close with the words of our Divine Minister of Agriculture Sar Yadiel:

A Yah soil-dynamic will produce plants grown in liberated soil of a superior nutritional value. They will contain Truth-complex vitamins and minerals of therefore unknown biological value and benefits. It is the qualitative-quantitative Yah-yield of Adamah/soil, combined with the Yah-righteous character, which will stimulate the Adamic-body to function on a higher level of metabolic-regenerative activity. Biologically speaking, we enter into the cycles of Divine health and longevity or simply stated, the cycles of everlasting life.”

Is The American Dream Still Possible

By David Wallechinsky Published: April 23, 2006 -Cleveland Plain Dealer Newspaper

The traditional American Dream is based on the belief that hardworking citizens can better their lives, pay their monthly bills without worry, give their children a start to an even better life and still save enough to live comfortably after they retire. But many average Americans are struggling—squeezed by rising costs, declining wages, credit-card debt and diminished benefits, with little left over to save for retirement. (See statistics below.)

I'm Going Bananas!!!

After Reading THIS, you'll NEVER look at a banana in the same way again!
Bananas Containing three natural sugars - sucrose, fructose and glucose combined with fiber, a banana gives an instant, sustained and substantial boost of energy. Research has proven that just two bananas provide enough energy for a strenuous 90-minute workout. No wonder the banana is the number one fruit with the world's leading athletes. But energy isn't the only way a banana can help us keep fit. It can also help overcome or prevent a substantial number of illnesses and conditions, making it a must to add to our daily diet. Depression: According to a recent survey undertaken by MIND amongst people suffering from depression, many felt much better after eating a banana. This is because bananas contain tryptophan, a type of protein that the body converts into serotonin, known to make you relax, improve your mood and generally make you feel happier. PMS: Forget the pills -- eat a banana. The vitamin B6 it contains regulates blood glucose levels, which can affect your mood. Anemia: High in iron, bananas can stimulate the production of hemoglobin in the blood and so helps in cases of anemia. Blood Pressure: This unique tropical fruit is extremely high in potassium yet low in salt, making it the perfect way to beat blood pressure. So much so, the US Food and Drug Administration has just allowed the banana industry to make official claims for the fruit's ability to reduce the risk of blood pressure and stroke. Brain Power: 200 students at a Twickenham (Middlesex) school were helped through their exams this year by eating bananas at breakfast, break, and lunch in a bid to boost their brain power. Research has shown that the potassium-packed fruit can assist learning by making pupils more alert. Constipation: High in fiber, including bananas in the diet can help restore normal bowel action, helping to overcome the problem without resorting to laxatives. Hangovers: One of the quickest ways of curing a hangover is to make a banana milkshake, sweetened with honey. The banana calms the stomach and, with the help of the honey, builds up depleted blood sugar levels, while the milk soothes and re-hydrates your system. Heartburn: Bananas have a natural antacid effect in the body, so if you suffer from heartburn, try eating a banana for soothing relief. Morning Sickness: Snacking on bananas between meals helps to keep blood sugar levels up and avoid morning sickness. Mosquito bites: Before reaching for the insect bite cream, try rubbing the affected area with the inside of a banana skin. Many people find it amazingly successful at reducing swelling and irritation. Nerves: Bananas are high in B vitamins that help calm the nervous system. Overweight and at work? Studies at the Institute of Psychology in Austria found pressure at work leads to gorging on comfort food like chocolate and chips. Looking at 5,000 hospital patients, researchers found the most obese were more likely to be in high-pressure jobs. The report concluded that, to avoid panic-induced food cravings, we need to control our blood sugar levels by snacking on high carbohydrate foods every two hours to keep levels steady. Ulcers: The banana is used as the dietary food against intestinal disorders because of its soft texture and smoothness. It is the only raw fruit that can be eaten without distress in over-chronicler cases. It also neutralizes over-acidity and reduces irritation by coating the lining of the stomach. Temperature control: Many other cultures see bananas as a "cooling" fruit that can lower both the physical and emotional temperature of expectant mothers. In Thailand, for example, pregnant women eat bananas to ensure their baby is born with a cool temperature. Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD): Bananas can help SAD sufferers because they contain the natural mood enhancer tryptophan. Smoking: Bananas can also help people trying to give up smoking. The B6, B12 they contain, as well as the potassium and magnesium found in them, help the body recover from the effects of nicotine withdrawal. Stress: Potassium is a vital mineral, which helps normalize the heartbeat, sends oxygen to the brain and regulates your body's water balance. When we are stressed, our metabolic rate rises, thereby reducing our potassium levels. These can be rebalanced with the help of a high-potassium banana snack. Strokes: According to research in "The New England Journal of Medicine," eating bananas as part of a regular diet can cut the risk of death by strokes by as much as 40%! So, a banana really is a natural remedy for many ills. When you compare it to an apple, it has four times the protein, twice the carbohydrates, three times the phosphorus, five times the vitamin A and iron, and twice the other vitamins and minerals. It is also rich in potassium and is one of the best value foods around. So maybe its time to change that well-known phrase so that we say, "A banana a day keeps the doctor away!"

Hydrogenation in food

Hydrogenation is widely applied to the processing of cooking oils and fats. Complete hydrogenation converts unsaturated fatty acids to saturated ones. In practice the process is not usually carried to completion. Since the original oils usually contain more than one double bond per molecule (that is, they are poly-unsaturated), the result is usually described as partially hydrogenated vegetable oil, that is some, but usually not all, of the double bonds in each molecule have been reduced.Hydrogenation results in the conversion of liquid vegetable oils to solid or semi-solid fats, such as those present in margarine. Changing the degree of saturation of the fat changes some important physical properties such as the melting point, which is why liquid oils become semi-solid. Semi-solid fats are preferred for baking because the way the fat mixes with flour produces a more desirable texture in the baked product. Since partially hydrogenated vegetable oils are reasonably priced, are available in a wide range of consistencies and have other desirable characteristics such as greater oxidative stability (longer shelf life), they are the predominant fats used in most commercial baked goods. Fat blends formulated for this purpose are called shortenings.

Stolen Body Parts Scandal

Stolen Body Parts Scandal Leads to More Testing of Patients Who May Have Received Diseased Human Tissue Grafts
Date Published: Sunday, April 23rd, 2006 By Steven DiJoseph
The ghoulish tale of stolen body parts, missing persons, diseased human tissue grafts, and the possibility that thousands of innocent patients are now at risk of developing everything from HIV/AIDS and syphilis to hepatitis B and C has become a scandal of nationwide proportions that has health officials in several states as well as the FDA and CDC extremely concerned.
Reports are now appearing that almost 100 more patients (this time in the Atlanta area) have been informed that human tissue grafts they received may have been from diseased body parts that were stolen from corpses in funeral homes and never properly screened for a wide range of serious and even life-threatening infectious diseases.

Got Ginger? Ginger Fights Cancer

By Dr. Baruch

Ginger can kill ovarian cancer cells while the compound that makespeppers hot can shrink pancreatic tumors, researchers told aconference. Their studies add to a growing body of evidence that atleast some popular spices might slow or prevent the growth of cancer.Dr. Rebecca Liu, an assistant professor of obstetrics and gynecology atthe University of Michigan Comprehensive Cancer Center, and colleaguestested ginger powder dissolved in solution by putting it on ovariancancer cell cultures. It killed the ovarian cancer cells in twodifferent ways. First, through a self-destruction process calledapoptosis and second, through the process of autophagy in which cancercells digest themselves, the researchers told a meeting of the AmericanAssociation for Cancer Research. There is "some support" for an association between ovarian cancer andthe consumption of milk products, Swedish researchers report in theInternational Journal of Cancer. From 1991 through 1998 in our nation’s capital, African American womenrepresented two-thirds of all deaths from ovarian cancer, while farmore cases were diagnosed in Caucasian women.Ovarian cancer kills 16,000 out of the 22,000 U.S. women who arediagnosed with it every year, according to the American Cancer Society.Ginger has been shown to help control inflammation, which can contributeto the development of ovarian cancer cells. “In multiple ovarian cancer cell lines, we found that ginger-inducedcell death at a similar or better rate than the platinum-basedchemotherapy drugs typically used to treat ovarian cancer,” said Dr.Jennifer Rhode, who helped work on the study. Ginger Mint Dressing made with the Wholefood Farmacy’s Heart of Gold isa great way to add ginger to your daily meal plan.

America's Fall Since the 60's-What was the Cause?

Quantifying America's Declineby William J. Bennett
The Wall Street Journal,Monday, March 15, 1993

Is out Culture declining? I have tried to quantify the answer to this question with the creation of the Index of Leading Cultural Indicators.
In the early 1960s, the Census Bureau began publishing the Index of Leading Economic Indicators. These 11 measurements, taken together, represent the best means we now have of interpreting current business developments and predicting future economic trends.
The Index of Leading Cultural Indicators, a compilation of the Heritage Foundation and Empower America, attempts to bring a similar kind of data-based analysis to cultural issues. It is a statistical portrait (from 1960 to the present) of the moral, social and behavioral conditions of modern American society--matters that, in our time, often travel under the banner of ``values.'' Perhaps no one will be surprised to learn that, according to the index, America's cultural condition is far from healthy. What is shocking is just how precipitously American life has declined in the past 30 years, despite the enormous government effort to improve it.
Since 1960, the U.S. population has increased 41%; the gross domestic product has nearly tripled; and total social spending by all levels of government (measured in constant 1990 dollars) has risen from $143.73 billion to $787 billion--more than a fivefold increase. Inflation-adjusted spending on welfare has increased by 630%, spending on education by 225%.
But during the same 30-year period there has been a 560% increase in violent crime, a 419% increase in illegitimate births; a quadrupling in divorce rates; a tripling of the percentage of children living in single-parent homes; more than a 200% increase in the teenage suicide rate; and a drop of almost 80 points in SAT scores. Senate panel recommends abolishing FEMA

Disaster agency beyond repair, Senate inquiry decides

Updated: 11:06 p.m. ET April 26, 2006
WASHINGTON - The nation’s beleaguered disaster response agency should be abolished and rebuilt from scratch to avoid a repeat of multiple government failures exposed by Hurricane Katrina, a Senate inquiry has concluded.
Crippled by years of poor leadership and inadequate funding, the Federal Emergency Management Agency cannot be fixed, a bipartisan investigation says in recommendations to be released Thursday.
Taken together, the 86 proposed reforms suggest the United States is still woefully unprepared for a disaster such as Katrina with the start of the hurricane season a little more than month away.
“The United States was, and is, ill-prepared to respond to a catastrophic event of the magnitude of Hurricane Katrina,” the recommendations warn. “Catastrophic events are, by their nature, difficult to imagine and to adequately plan for, and the existing plans and training proved inadequate in Katrina.”
The recommendations, obtained Wednesday by The Associated Press, are the product of a seven-month investigation to be detailed in a Senate report to released next week. It follows similar inquiries by the House and White House and comes in an election year in which Democrats have seized on Katrina to attack the Bush administration.
Bush to visit region againPresident Bush will visit Louisiana and Mississippi — which bore the brunt of Katrina’s wrath — on Thursday.
The inquiry urges yet another overhaul of the embattled Homeland Security Department — FEMA’s parent agency — which was created three years ago and already has undergone major restructuring of duties and responsibilities.
It proposes creating a new agency, called the National Preparedness and Response Authority, that would plan and carry out relief missions for domestic disasters. Unlike now, the authority would have a direct line of communication with the president during major crises, and any dramatic cuts to its budget or staffing levels would have to be approved by Congress.
It would also oversee efforts to protect critical infrastructure such as buildings, roads and power systems, as well as Homeland Security’s medical officer. But the inquiry calls for keeping the agency within Homeland Security, warning that making it an independent office would cut it off from resources the larger department could provide.
The proposal drew disdain from the Homeland Security Department and its critics, both sides questioning the need for another bureaucratic shuffling that they said wouldn’t accomplish much.
“It’s time to stop playing around with the organizational charts and to start focusing on government, at all levels, that are preparing for this storm season,” said Homeland Security spokesman Russ Knocke.
Former FEMA director Michael Brown said the new agency would basically have the same mission as FEMA had a year ago, before its disaster planning responsibilities were taken away.
‘Beyond repair’“It sounds like they’re just re-creating the wheel and making it look like they’re calling for change,” Brown said. “If indeed that’s all they’re doing, they owe more than that to the American public.”
But Sen. Susan Collins, R-Maine, who led the inquiry, said the new agency would be “better equipped with the tools to prepare for and respond to a disaster.”
Describing FEMA as a “shambles and beyond repair,” Collins said the overall report “will help ensure that we do not have a repeat of the failures following Hurricane Katrina.”
Many of the rest of the recommendations were far less dramatic, ranging from creating a Homeland Security Academy to better trained relief staff, to encouraging people and state and local governments to plan for evacuating and sheltering pets during a disaster.
Most of them offered common-sense reforms, like better coordination among all levels of government, providing reliable communications equipment to allow emergency responders to talk to each other and ensuring urban evacuation plans are up to date and adequate.
Concluding that FEMA was seriously underfunded, Senate investigators called for more money for disaster planning and response at all levels of government. They did not specify, however, how much money was needed and skirted around whether the federal government should be providing all the funding.
The recommendations also called for clarifying responsibilities for levee maintenance — highlighting the structural weaknesses of the New Orleans flood walls against Katrina. They also urged better contracting procedures to avoid waste or fraud in the rush to get aid to disaster victims.
“There is no federal dollar that is spent on disaster relief and recovery for which the government is not accountable to taxpayers,” the recommendations said.

China Looks Toward Africa

China stirs up and causes jitters globally-Kenya Times Newspaper-->BY WYCLIFFE ASALWA
CHINA is increasingly targeting its economic and cultural ‘eye’ to the ground in Africa and Kenya is one of its interest zones on the continent. In recent years, Beijing has been focusing on building ties with Africa through boosting mutual economic and strategic interests, a fact that has threatened Western influence in the continent. The Chinese balancing act is yet to be fully grasped but her determination is unmistakable. President Hu Jintao took his economic wand to Washington on April 18 and will also touch base with Morocco, Nigeria, Kenya and South Africa. HIV's new target: Black women

By Ronnie Agnew ragnew@clarionledger.com
The story has bounced off the front pages of American newspapers and barely found a spot at the bottom of newscasts.
But the problem is no less serious and no less deadly. In reality, the HIV/AIDS crisis in America has found an anchor in Mississippi. Like the rest of the country, it's no longer out front, so people have gone about their lives without fear of the sexual consequencess.
The promiscuity, blind sexual trust and intravenous drug use that gave life to this incurable disease is just as prevalent today as when former NBA great Magic Johnson gave HIV/AIDS a recognizable face.
Jarring, isn't it? Jarring that in 2006 this health crisis still looms even though attention to it is relegated to National AIDS Week or when someone pens a new book. See Full Article:

US Virgin Islanders invited to Ghana-by Susan MannCaribbean Net News St John CorrespondentEmail: susan@caribbeannetnews.com
ST JOHN, USVI: The Minister of State of the Republic of Ghana, in West Africa, has extended an official invitation to Caribbean residents of the US Virgin islands to participate in a formal healing ceremony to be held in that country. US Virgin Islanders will also have the privilege of celebrating the opening of the Virgin Islands Exhibition.
Shelley Moorhead, President of the African-Caribbean Reparations and Resettlement Alliance (ACRRA) issued the details of the scheduled July 28 and 29, 2006 events, in a March 30 press release to Caribbean Net News.
Minister of State, J.O. Obetsebi-Lamptey, in a letter dated March, 2, 2005, extended the invitation to Lieutenant Governor Vargrave Richards.
The letter states the purpose of the seven hour spiritual healing ceremony which will take place on July 29 is to "lay the ancestral spirits to rest by bringing together traditional African chiefs with the leaders from the US Virgin Islands during which we will seek to reconcile and reunite kith and kin abroad with their brothers and sisters here on the homeland."
Moorhead has also been asked by the Government of Ghana to serve in an official capacity for the "Joseph Project" and matters concerning our renewed cultural, historical, and economic ties to the region.
Ghana President Kufuor's sentiments regarding the ancestors of present day Virgin Islanders who were kidnapped from their homeland and sold in to slavery were expressed in the letter.
The Minister of State said Kufuor was, "moved to learn of more than 200,000 African men, women, and children imprisoned in Ghana and loaded onto ships bound for the Danish West Indies," and, "It has been unsettling to learn that nearly half of them died on the journey across the Atlantic."
The President expressed great pride in the knowledge of the leaders of 1733 St. John Revolt (which predated the Haitian Revolution) and said those leaders were of the Akwamu Tribe, which can be traced to Volta Lake "here in Ghana."
Minister of State Obetsebi-Lamtey said the government of Ghana is excited about, "the wealth of documentation in the Virgin Islands which shows exactly how many Africans were picked up in Ghana during the slave trade, where they were taken, and what ships they were transported on," and, "These are records which could help so many of today's Ghanaians find family members in the Virgin Islands and around the world and fill yet another gap in our fragmented history."
The letter goes on to mention "the many programs Ghana has created for Africans in the Diaspora." These include, land ownership, developments projects, tax deductions for business owners and entrepeneurs, visa-free entry, and dual-citizenship opportunities among others.
The intent is to reconnect African descendents to the continent through culture, spiritual restoration, education, and economics.
Moorhead told Caribbean Net News that the work of his organization, ACRRA is on going, and that meetings are being held with "various community groups and organizations through out the Virgin Islands."
He was invited to represent the group at an international gathering in Israel this past December.

Dr. Baruch Speaks in Cleveland

Laugh yourself into good health or be charmed into it by L.E.N. (KNN Writer) Last Sunday, Doctor Baruch, gave an inspiring and informative seminar entitled, “Eat The Cure”. In 2004 Dr. Baruch received a Naturopathic degree from The School of the Prophets. In a comical and casual tone, Dr. Baruch imparted heavy hitting health information. But, before he did he asked us to answer a question. How do you put a giraffe in the refrigerator? Of course the correct answer came from a child. You simply open the door and put the giraffe in! Dr. Baruch didn’t ask what kind of refrigerator. There was a lesson in that. All too often, we think the key to good health is something complicated. The key to good health is actually fairly simple and fun. Although his seminar was entertaining, the health statistics are no laughing matter.

Dr. Baruch instructed that we repeat this affirmation to ourselves, “I love myself and I work daily to be healthy!” This affirmation is to be repeated before we eat or do anything. It’s not just what we eat that makes us unhealthy, but what we do. So if thinking seriously about what we are doing or eating before we actually take part, then we won’t make half the bad decisions that we make on a daily basis. Bad decisions lead to stress and stress is a major cause of illness.

Some of the alarming health facts that Dr. Baruch shared:
2 million people will die from consumerism controlled by the FDA
1.3 million people will diagnosed with cancer
9 million children are seriously overweight
1 million people will develop diabetes
1200 people will die from unnecessary surgeries

The list above is the short list. What makes this even more of a concern is the fact that cancer, diabetes and obesity are all preventable illnesses. More importantly, Dr. Baruch revealed that we can cure ourselves of every ailment known to man. More people are sick than ever before and this is a result of us destroying our immune system through this consumer culture. We live a sedentary lifestyle, we have a poor diet and we are under stress. We are naturally vegetarians, yet meat has become a part of all three meals per day. This was not always the case. Eating meat as a part of every meal is actually a response to commercialism. Dr. Baruch shared that our diet has been shaped through human sociology. He also went on to state that, “Emotional energy is what people consume when they eat animals. We are eating the last emotion the animal felt before death. Eating chicken, one consumes the mind of a chicken. The mind is throughout the entire body.”

The truth is that most of us will not stop what is killing us because we have low self worth. The body is the temple. The temple cannot be preserved by introducing things that will not sustain it.

Where did we go wrong with our health? Dr Baruch made it very clear.
Eating a poor diet
Not getting enough sleep
Not drinking enough water (When we feel thirsty, that is actually the last indicator of dehydration.)
Not eating enough raw fruits and vegetables which give us enzymes
Eating meat (Meat takes away from the body because enzymes have to come from the body in order to break it down.)
Having too much stress in our life, stress actually affects our organs

Please take note that it is not in the best interest of the food, health or the pharmaceutical industry for you to be healthy. The health industry will tell you to drink cow’s milk for strong bones and teeth; however this is the food item with the most bacteria in it. The responsibility of the food industry has become to break down the immune system of its consumers. The food we eat is filled with preservatives which are toxic. When toxins build up in fatty tissue, the body produces more fatty tissue. We then go to the doctor after consuming all this bad food. We expect them to heal us. Instead of treating the illness, doctor’s treat the symptoms. You might feel better, but you have not been healed. The pharmaceutical industry and the food industry are working together to get and keep people sick.

Dr. Baruch’s list of foods we should not eat:
Partially hydrogenated oil (This shuts down the body’s ability to break down fat.)
Artificially flavored foods
Artificially preserved foods
Processed foods with ingredients that cannot be pronounced
Processed white flour, sugar or rice
Meat or meat by-products
MSG
High fructose corn syrup
Dairy
Chicken
Seafood (Fish has toxic mercury and other toxic chemicals.)

Dr. Baruch’s to do list:
Take weight, divide it by two and drink that in ounces
Exercise three times a week
Take a multiple vitamin
Take a mineral supplement
Take a digestive enzyme
Consume more raw organic fruits and vegetables
Eat more green foods
Meditate daily for a minimum of 15 minutes
Cleanse and Detox
Fast once per week (allow your body to rest)
… and don’t forget your affirmation, “I love myself and I work daily to keep myself healthy!”
